Tulips

Paul brought home tulips yesterday. This morning they looked so pretty with the morning light coming in that I decided to take a picture of them.

Tulips always remind me of what my mother-in-law used to quote:

Tulips in the garden
Tulips in the park
But the best tulips
Are the two lips in the dark!

LOL, funny the things that pop into your mind!

White roses and Alpaca scarves

Paul came home from work with these beautiful white roses for me. He does that every now and then, brings me flowers for no reason. Aren't they pretty?

Also, as I mentioned in a previous post, Kristen is in the midst of tracking all of her knitting projects and, in the process, finishing up some old ones. She gave Mark part of this scarf for Christmas 2010. She does that sometimes, gives you something that isn't finished and then takes it back to finish!! Anyhow, she finished it and gave it to Mark tonight. It is so soft; Alpaca wool. It looks good on him, don't you think?

355/365 - Dot's new perm

Today we took Dot to get a perm. She has been going to this hairdresser since she moved to Agawam in 1979. She is very comfortable with him and he treats her like a queen. Doesn't she look great?


When I got to her house today, a Christmas bouquet was on her table, sent to her from her sister. It was beautiful. In the middle was a little Christmas scene with Santa his workshop and sleigh full of toys. Dot absolutely loved it. Thanks, Ettie.

352/365 - Christmas flowers

Today the doorbell rang and it was a flower delivery. This beautiful Christmas flower arrangement came from Stacia and Amy (Janelle's mother and sister). Isn't it pretty? It's unusal too; instead of being in a vase, it is in a clear bowl of water. It will look beautiful on my Christmas dinner table, and I can also enjoy it for the week before Christmas. Thank you Stacia and Amy!

348/365 - Janelle's Christmas Cactus

A few months ago Janelle asked if her Christmas Cactus could stay at my house for "safe-keeping" for awhile. It seemed that the only place they had for it was right within Mason's reach. It must love my house! I have two Christmas Cactus and neither of them have bloomed as much as this one.

209/365 - Rose of Sharon flower

This is a flower from my Rose of Sharon bush. I wanted to take a picture of the whole bush, but I waited too long and it is past its peak. There are still some pretty flowers on it though.

201/365 - Queen Anne's Lace

The Queen Anne's Lace are out in full force. This was one of my mother-in-law Priscilla's favorite flowers. Seeing them always reminds me of her.

195/365 - Priscilla's Daylilies

I have been wanting to weed and clean up around Priscilla's grave, and also see how the daylilies were doing. We went there today. I was so happy to see that the flowers were doing beautifully.

These daylilies originally came from Priscilla's grandmother's house in Plymouth, where she and her sister and brothers had spent their childhood summers. Priscilla always said that these daylilies were special because they had a double flower on each of them instead of the more common single flower daylily. She planted them at her house at 30 Kay St., and when they moved to Agawam, I planted some of them at her new house on Yale Ave. I also decided that I needed some of them at my own house. Now they have made it to her grave.

Such a long journey for these beautiful flowers!

189/365 - The first daylilies of the year

Today was the first day that my daylilies bloomed. The first ones are always so exciting to see!

The rhododendron in the front of my house is in full bloom. It was given to us as a house warming present by Paul's aunt and uncle, Pat and George, back in 1973.

My ferns have really taken off. I love how they keep spreading every year.

126/365 - Is this a weed?

Does anyone know what kind of flower this is? I have them growing like weeds in my backyard. Maybe they are weeds. They're pretty though.

120/365 - Is this a Hyacinth?

This little flower just showed up in my front yard this Spring. Does anyone know what it is? Maybe a hyacinth, but it is small. It is just such a burst of color among all that green. Maybe some more will show up. It makes me happy.

The ferns in my back yard have really sprouted during this heat wave.

115/365 - Flowers at the The Old Train Station

On the way home from the Princess Sleepover this morning, Paul and I stopped at the hot dog cart near the train crossing. Much too early for hot dogs for me, but they have breakfast sandwiches (Paul had hot dogs at about 10 in the morning). It was so beautiful out, warm and sunny. A train came by and I got out of the car to take a picture, but found that the flowers were much prettier than the train.

76/365 - Christmas Cactus (and Izzy)

Today's picture was supposed to be my Christmas cactus that was in bloom, but Izzy just looked so cute beneath it that I had to get her in the picture too!

71/365 - Hydrangea cuttings

These are hydrangea cuttings that I have been rooting since last September. Paul, Marley and I went to the Cape to visit Paul's aunt and uncle. His Aunt Judy has the most beautiful purple hydrangea plants along one side of her house. She gave me some cuttings, wrapped in wet paper towels, to bring home. She said they were real "easy" to root. I bought some vermiculite and put them in pots near a window in an unused upstairs bedroom (it was the only place I could put them away from Izzy). The only problem is that we don't have the heat on in that bedroom. In the beginning I kept them "misted" every day. But as the winter went on, and it was cold in that room, I wasn't as faithful. I'm not sure if they are still alive or not. I guess I'll know when I go to plant them, if they have any roots. I'll keep you posted.
