Annual trip to LL Bean for New Year's Eve Weekend

Today we left for LL Bean.  We have been coming up here for New Year's Eve weekend for quite a few years.  It always seems so relaxing after the hustle and bustle of the holidays!  Luckily we got here just as the snow started.

On New Year's Eve day we took a ride down one of the legs of a penninsula to Orr's and Bailey Islands.  It was a beautiful sunny day.

We stayed and watched a beautiful sunset!

We spent the evening at LL Bean.  Everything was decorated so beautifully: they even had fireworks.  It seemed weird watching fireworks in the winter, but we were bundled up.

On New Year's day we headed home taking old roads down the coast.  We stopped at York Beach and got out to look at Nubble Light.  It was so cold and windy that we didn't stay out there too long.

Then we took a walk on the beach.  It was actually warmer on the beach than at Nubble Light.

Someone wrote this on the beach.

Happy New Year everyone!

Throwback Thursday - Winters of the past

This is what winters used to be like in New England.

This picture was sent to us years ago by Paul's Uncle George; his mother Priscilla's brother. It is of Priscilla shoveling snow off the roof of their childhood home on Virginia St. in Springfield in 1947.

This is when they walked 10 miles to school in 10 feet of snow (slight exaggeration). Certainly not like this winter!!

It's beginning to look a little like winter

This morning we woke up to some snow, not much though. This is what my street look like during my walk today, slushy.

It is about 30 degrees warmer than it was two days ago. I think the high for Sunday was about 10.

It is supposed to rain today, so the snow will probably be gone by tomorrow. Mind you, I'm not complaining. It's just weird!

Sliding

This afternoon Paul and Marley went sliding at Southwick High school. Paul brought his homemade "ski sled." He made this contraption when he was about 10 or 12 years old. He took a pair of old skis and nailed a piece of wood between them, then drilled holes in the tips of the skis and attached a rope to pull it. He had a lot of fun with it when he was young.

They had a lot of fun sliding, and I had fun taking pictures of them.

When we got home Marley played outside for awhile on the snowbanks out front. They are still so big; it's going to take a long time for this snow to melt.

More snow, etc., etc. ad infinitum

Today we had more snow. Paul and I had the day off, and I never left the house; actually I stayed in my pj's all day. I'm feeling a little claustrophobic. The Weather Channel is predicting a huge storm today into tomorrow. Paul built a fire outside while he shoveled.

P.S. All told, Feb. 1st into Feb. 2nd we got about 12 inches here!

10 more inches!

This was the scene this morning when I left for work. Channel 22 said 10 inches in Agawam. I've had enough already, and it's still only January.

On a different note....Big Baba's sister, Aunt Nancy, gave Mason a cute little sweat suit for Christmas. He had it on tonight so I took some pictures of Mason and his Daddy to send to Nancy.

Yet another snowstorm

This was the scene on my way into work this morning. This is the third storm in 9 days. I'm snow weary.

Nor'easter

Well, a Nor'easter blew through our neck of the woods today - leaving, according to one local news station, 18.5 inches in my town. Paul took these pictures while he was out shoveling. His work got cancelled today. Mine, of course (I work in a hospital) did not.

These two pictures are in my back yard.

This is my neighbor across the street, Good Carl (I call him Good Carl because his house and yard is always perfect. His lawn is always mowed perfectly and his snow is always shoveled perfectly. Paul says I call him Good Carl as opposed to Bad Paul).

With this snow, winter will be here for a good long time!

343/365 - First snow of 2009

Today was the first substantial snow storm of 2009. This was how it looked on my ride into work. We ended up with about 6-7 inches. Way too early for this.

61/365 - Still Winter

At least it's March. Spring can't be very far away......can it?

28/365 - Hot chocolate break

Today there was more snow, sleet, and freezing rain. The dead of winter. This is Paul taking a break from shoveling snow tonight, sitting by his fire in the rain, drinking hot chocolate, soaking wet but still in his shorts!
