I have always loved this picture of Paul's Dad, Big Baba.  It was taken on Thanksgiving Day 2003.  It is hard to get a picture of him looking at the camera, never mind smiling!

I miss GG, and I miss Dot before Alzheimer's.

Big Baba's birthday cake

Tonight the kids and I made a cake for Big Baba. His birthday was Wednesday, so since both kids were here tonight I thought it would be nice for us to make him a homemade cake. He seemed to really enjoy it.

Mason was so excited to put the candles on his cake, Marley lit the candles and we all sang.

Fred's LL Bean pocket watch, and tents

In 1994 Paul and his mother bought this LL Bean pocket watch for Fred. Paul happened to see it in the LL Bean catalog. It is the pocket version of their field watch. Fred has always worn pocket watches and Priscilla wanted him to have a nice one that would last awhile.

A couple of months ago it stopped working. He took it to a jeweler and they fixed the watch, but a couple of days later the back fell off. The jewler did not have a back that would fit this watch and LL Bean doesn't sell pocket watches anymore. While we there this past weekend Paul talked to them and they happened to still have that part and they mailed it to us. The part came today so Paul took it back to the jeweler and they put it on. Fred seemed very happy to have his watch back in working order!

In other news....tonight we made a tent for the first time with Mason. He didn't really want to get way under, but liked to stick his head under. Marley, on the othe hand, loves to get into the tent. We are going to have to come up with another type of tent, though, because she is way too long for this type of tent, LOL!

Throwback Thursday - 1940's Bethany weddings

Today at church a friend of ours gave Paul a DVD; on it were videos of weddings in the 1940's from my church - not the whole wedding, just pictures of the bride and groom, the wedding party and whatever guests were milling about. Evidently the pastor's wife of our church at that time did the videotaping. There is no sound, just the movies. I didn't even know there were video cameras back then. Somehow this friend and her mother were in contact with the daughter of the pastor's wife and obtained them.

One of the couples was Paul's parents; they were married in 1949. I have seen this picture before, but to actually see them in a movie was so cool. You see them actually getting into the car and driving off.

Many of the couples were parents of our friends and we knew them well. Actually, one set of Toby's (my son-in-law) grandparents were on this too. It was so much fun to watch this. What a treasure to have.

When Marley saw Big Baba, she said "Oh my gosh!"

My family is heading into birthday season. Between August 22nd and September 23rd we have 6 birthdays. We usually have one big birthday celebration, but today is actually Paul's father's (Big Baba) birthday, and seeing it was Sunday and we were together, we had a little birthday celebration. Happy Birthday Big Baba!

Big Baba brought Marley a present for Valentine's Day tonight. A heart tin with earrings and bracelets. Her expression said it all; she loved it!

25/365 - Big Baba and Marley reading Timeless Toys

I have a book called Timeless Toys that Marley and my father-in-law like looking through. I caught them today, sitting together, going through this book. Big Baba was showing her some of the toys that he had as a child. They looked so cute; having a good time together.

Studebaker Magazine

This is the cover of the Studegram magazine. My father-in-law's car, his 1939 Studebaker, was on the cover of this magazine for May-June 2008. He was pretty proud of this, as he should be!

Happy Birthday Big Baba!

Today was my father-in-law's birthday. Ever since I can remember, he has not wanted to celebrate his birthday. The only exception to that is when it comes to Marley. She is welcome to celebrate his birthday. Because we have so many birthdays between August 22nd and September 23rd, we usually pick a convenient date during that month and celebrate all of us at once. But, yesterday was his actual birthday, and it was on a Friday (which is Grandma, Marley and the Babas' night) so we had a little party. Marley came fully loaded with present, card and birthday cake. Her daycare lady, Junie, is taking a cake decorating class. Somehow she found out that it was Marley's Big Baba's birthday tonight and she made a tiny cake, completely decorated just like a professional cake. Marley made a clay pig, and also a really cute card. I think Big Baba was really pleased with all the attention from Marley on his B-day.
